“On nights like this, you feel like all you’ve got to do is look at the basket and the ball is going to go in.”
— Cavaliers shooting guard C.J. Miles
The 10 3-pointers club is a fascinating one. Before last night, the club had 15 members and only 4 (Ray Allen, Peja, Kobe, Joe Johnson) of those 15 are in the top 40 in made 3 pointers in a career. Some of the guys on the list like Donyell Marshall, who is actually tied with Kobe Bryant for most ever in a game at 12, will probably surprise people that he’s even in the club. Of the remaining 13, 4 (Steph Curry, JR Smith, Deron Williams and Dennis Scott) made 11 3-pointers.
Also interesting about this list is the first member of the club was Coach Brian Shaw and Shaw was just 1 of 3 players in the 90s to make 10 3-pointers in a game. Now this list doesn’t include exhibition games and if it did then we would be adding John Starks to it. From 2002-2012 we had 7 members join and in just 2013 we had 4 new members.
Last night, in the first week of 2014, against the 76ers, it only took Cleveland’s C.J. Miles 32 minutes to score 34 points and join the club. 8 of his 10 3-pointers came in the first half which is a new franchise record and 4 of those 8 came within the last 2 and half minutes of the first quarter.
At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised to see 2014 eclipse 2013 as more and more players join this club. Here’s a few of the most memorable ones.
Ty Lawson hits 10 in a row
Steph Curry catches fire in NY
Donyell Marshall sets the NBA record with 12 3-pointers
Kobe scores 45 & matches the NBA record for 3 pointers
It’s just too bad CJ Miles shares a name with a porn star.
