"I played like shit!" Yelled D'Angelo Russell during a post-game interview minutes after draining a game-winning 3 at the buzzer against Ben Simmons and the 76ers.
Did he really play "like shit?" Sort of. Before making 4 of his last 6 shots, Russell was just 4 of 14, missed 2 of his 5 free throws and turned the ball over 6 times with only 4 assists.
The top 2 picks in the draft didn't shoot much better: #2 pick Brandon Ingram missed 9 of his 12 shots and finished with just 7 points; #1 pick Ben Simmons almost f'ed around and got a triple-double but missed 5 of his shots and had 7 turnovers to go with his 8 assists.
So yes, Russell played "like shit," but for the 2nd game in a row, he also played like the best player on the court and yes he does have ice in his veins.
CELEBRATING WITH HIS OG
As amusing as Russell's post-game quote on his performance was, his best quotes came when he talked about celebrating with his Dad after the game-winner.
“I mean, that’s my OG,” Russell said of his father. “Like I said, when I do good, he’s there. When I do bad, he’s there. What father wouldn’t want to see his son do something like that with that type of atmosphere and that crowd? I’m just blessed to have him there, sitting front row and seeing it.”
