It's been a tough week for D'Angelo Russell. On Wednesday, the 21-year old guard had one of the worst lines in recent memory when he fouled out with 5 points on 2 of 10 shooting and 7 turnovers. On Friday, he broke out of his shooting slump (11 for his last 41 from the field) with 14 points on 55% shooting but got blasted by everybody from media members to Draymond Green for his involvement in the Bucks/Lakers scuffle. On Sunday, Russell was back in the starting line-up and exploded for a career-high 40 points on 64% shooting against the Cavs. The 40 made him the youngest Laker to ever put up 40 in a regular season game.

Unfortunately for the Russell and the Lakers, the 40 wasn't enough to snap the Lakers four-game losing streak but it did garner some rave reviews from LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.

"He's a special guy," James said of Russell, who also had six assists while committing just one turnover. "He's a special player. Russell was extremely hot tonight, and those guys fed off him."

"He's a great young player," added Kyrie, who scored 46 for the Cavs.

If the performance and compliments wasn't enough to make Lakers fans feel optimistic, Russell was back in the gym after the loss. The image with the caption "hardest worker I know" was posted by his friend @Janaay.
