It’s hard being a Suns fan right now but it’s real easy to enjoy the play of rookie Devin Booker. The 19 year old continued to impress and scored a career-high 32 in a loss to the Pacers on Tuesday night. The 32 was the most by a Suns rookie since Amar’e Stoudemire in 2002. The 6 3-pointers is a new Suns rookie record.
As impressive as his offense was, Coach Hornacek was more interested in praising his defense.
“He’s going to score points in this league. I was much happier with his defense tonight,” Hornacek said. “Don’t always be the nail. Hammer into somebody once and let them take the brunt of the blow, and he did that a few times. He made some strides defensively. When you play well defensively I think it does help your offense. You’re into the game.”
So what’s the motivation behind the impressive play from the standout rookie?
“Just playing against their best two-guard every night, I take pride in that,” Booker said after the game “I feel like every night I have something to prove.”
