I’m loving the Ben Simmons show. I love seeing Ballislife All-Americans Briscoe and Skal doing their thing in Kentucky. But as a proud FSU alumni, I’ve been loving even more what I’m seeing out of two fantastic freshmen in Tallahassee: BIL All-Americans and human highlight machines Dwayne Bacon and Malik Beasley have brought fun back to FSU basketball as the Noles are off to a 7-2 start.
In their last game against freshman start Malik Newman and Mississippi State, Bacon scored a team-high 20 points on 7 of 12 shooting and Beasley recorded his first collegiate double double with 17 points and 10 boards as the Noles beat the Bulldogs 90-66.
“There’s not many freshman duos that are as impressive as those two,” Mississippi State coach Ben Howland said. “They will be a real factor in the ACC for sure.”
Beasley currently leads the team in scoring at 18.1 points per game and Bacon is 2nd with 16.2. Both are averaging 5.1 rebounds and both have the potential to create a highlight of the night – just ask the SE Louisiana defender who got put on a Beasley poster earlier this week.
I can guarantee you will be seeing a few more of these posters before the duo take their talents to the next level but I don’t want to think too far in the future. It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited about FSU basketball – maybe the late 90s when they had the dunking duo of James Collins and Randell Jackson – so I want to enjoy every minute I can with these guys.
And speaking of enjoyment, you aren’t going to find too many guys who look like they are enjoying themselves as much as these two…and it’s contagious.
