Hassan Whiteside has a growing rep for being one of the best rim protectors in the league. Unfortunately, the NBA shot blocking leader also has a growing rep for his temper and elbows.
During last night’s loss to the Spurs, Whiteside was ejected after elbowing Boban Marjanovic in the face. Boban said he didn’t think the hit was intentional but his own team wasn’t so forgiving: the Heat sent Whiteside home before the game was even over.
“That’s something we’ll deal with with Hassan,” Spoelstra said. “We don’t condone that kind of play. We’ve been through this with him before. But it’s a disappointing play. That’s not a basketball play.”
Co-Captain Chris Bosh also commented on Whiteside after the game.
“The next step for him is really learning about reputation,” Bosh said. “Unfortunately, he’s taken a step back. You have to build your reputation back up. Whether it’s right or wrong, whether he made contact or not, I really don’t know. But people see that and tend to expect certain things.”
Whiteside was ejected twice last season: once for tackling Alex Len and another for hitting Kelly Olynyk in the back of the head.
