This past Wednesday Jordan brand introduced the next frontier of flight, the Air Jordan XXXI. The introduction took place at the Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Nike changed the game back in ’85 with a black & red signature sneaker for MJ. Before that there were only boring & plain white shoes or black shoes. Then Nike introduced the Air Jordan 1’s, the “Breds” to be exact.
The NBA banned the shoes from the league due to uniform violations. MJ didn’t give a shit, he still wanted to wear those kicks. Although Michael didn’t have the funds to accept the fines everytime he wore the sneakers. So NIKE took the stand & paid the fines throughout the season & started a revolution in the sneaker industry.
The XXXI’s were inspired by the 1’s. Not just the colorway, but the effect the 1’s
had on the entire sneaker industry. It single handedly changed the way companies developed their sneakers & the colorways to go with.
Fast forward nearly 30 years later & the spirit of the 1’s is making a comeback to inspire the next Jordan signature sneaker. Obviously taking hues from the “Bred” colorway, the XXXI’s fuse mesh & leather to bring modern technology for today’s Jordan Brand athletes.
