It’s hard to complain about a player averaging 26 points, a league leading 14 rebounds, 4 assists while shooting 83% from the free throw line and making 2.5 3-pointers a game but I’ve been waiting for Love to explode for one of those 30/20 games all season and last night against Blake Griffin and the Clippers, Love exploded for 45 points 19 rebounds and 6 assists. Apples that NBA.com said hasn’t been reached since Hakeem in the mid 90s but KG, Duncan and Shaq have had plenty of equally impressive and more impressive all-around stat lines since 96.
Regardless of what those legends did, what Love did last night was impressive. For his 45 points he connected on 15 of 23 shots and early in the 4th his elbows connected with Blake Griffin’s face twice within a second.
The elbows were unintentional but earlier in the game Love did look like he wanted to deliver some elbows to Matt Barnes after Barnes delivered a flagrant 2 foul on Love while he was driving to the basket. The refs stepped in preventing Love from confronting Barnes who was ejected for the foul.
Good thing for the Timberwolves Love didn’t get into a fight with Barnes because they needed him in regulation and OT. Love only scored 3 points in the extra session but assisted on all of the other buckets for his team that eventually fell 120-116.
