Before the Curry and Klay-less Warriors took on the Clippers Wednesday night, Coach Steve Kerr said Lou Williams would probably drop 50 on them.
Up by 16 with 30 seconds left in regulation, Lou launched and made a deep three for 50 points. Not only did the career-high performance prove Kerr right and help snap the Clippers’ 12-game losing streak to the Warriors, it spoiled the night for Kevin Durant, who scored a season-high 40 on 14-of-18 shooting and became the 44th player in NBA history to reach 20,000 career points.
“He ordered 50-piece nuggets on us tonight,” Said Durant. “Lou got it going.”
The walking bucket and underrated rapper had it going all night but really had it going in the third quarter, when he scored a franchise-high 27.
This was the third 40+ game for Williams this season, second in his past six games (40, 33, 26, 23, 34, 50). Shockingly, it also made him just the fourth Clipper to ever score 50; Bob McAdoo, Freeman Williams and Charles Smith are the other three.
