Benj Berrouet’s Rise: USA Basketball Experience Fueling One Of The Nation’s Fastest Rising 2028 Prospects
Rising junior (2028) prospect Benj Berrouet has quickly emerged as one of the most intriguing young forwards in the country. Playing for AB Elite on the Nike EYBL Circuit, he’s averaging 24.5 points per game (3rd in All EYBL 16U), leads the division in rebounds with 12.9 a game and fourth in blocks, averaging 2.5 swats a game.
The physically imposing forward rebounds at a high level, gets off the ground quickly, and consistently overwhelms opponents with his strength and activity. His expanding skill set, improving perimeter ability, and interior dominance create major matchup problems. Combine that with his growing offensive versatility and we're talking about one of the premier long-term prospects nationally in the 2028 class.
USA Basketball Experience Exudes Confidence
For Berrouet, the opportunity to compete at the recent USA Basketball Mini-Camps marked the first time he truly saw himself against the nation’s elite. He participated in the one in Colorado Springs last October and in Indianapolis during NCAA Final Four Weekend. Benji spoke with Ballislife about his two USA Basketball sessions.
“It was my first chance playing against the best of the best. I was a little nervous at first seeing all the 5-stars and 4-stars.”
But the experience quickly became transformative for the rising star.
“It shaped me and gave me a different mindset.”
That mindset only strengthened after another strong showing in Indianapolis.
“At that point I was just going out there and hooping. My confidence was sky high after knowing I can play and thrive at this level.”
What makes Berrouet’s rise even more impressive is his age. Despite already holding high-major offers and competing nationally, he still does not turn 16 years old until June 10. Over the last year, his confidence has skyrocketed alongside his national profile. Ranked No. 23 in the ESPN 60 for 2028, Benji’s number will likely continue to rise.
“My confidence grew from the USA Basketball experience. My ranking is high and going into every game, I want to dominate because I feel I can outplay the very best,” Berrouet said.

Change of Scenery Expands Goals
His game has evolved significantly over the last year. The McKinney, Texas product now headed to Dynamic Prep (Dallas, Texas) says improvement as a perimeter scorer and decision-maker has been a major point of emphasis.
"My shooting off the dribble has improved and every day," Berrouet said. "I’m working with Brandon Fields or Shane Butler. We work on a lot of things. but the primary focus has mainly been shooting. I’m taking a higher volume of threes and jumpers, period, and now my confidence as a shooter is growing. I used to take one, maybe two jumpers a game last year. Now I feel comfortable shooting like double or triple that amount now."
Physically, his transformation has been substantial. Berrouet didn’t begin lifting seriously until he entered high school, but his body has changed dramatically in a short amount of time.
“Freshman year I was 180 pounds. By the end of spring freshman year I was 205.”
Now, Berrouet says the weight room has become part of his daily routine.
“Now I’m basically lifting every day.”
That commitment has helped him reach 233 pounds while adding significant muscle and strength.
Taking a quick dive into recruiting, Berrouet already holds offers from programs including the University of Houston, University of Texas, University of Miami, Louisiana State University, Ohio State University, University of Michigan, and Georgia Tech. For Berrouet, though, the attention means more than just basketball.
“It’s just a blessing, schools of this caliber like that make my mom and dad happy and proud,” Berrouet said.
Heading into the rest of the summer, his goals remain ambitious. Having transferred to Dynamic Prep for this upcoming school year, Berrouet also has lofty scholastic goals.
“I want to show I’m one of, if not the best player in the country and I want to win another OTE championship for Dynamic Prep. And finally, help get them over the hump to win Chipotle Nationals. I want to show I can help carry a team as a 16-year-old."
