Uncle Skoob vs. Rob Colon at Redemption is, to put it simply, a historic matchup in the 1v1 space. There’s been plenty of rivalries and matchups that have come to define this sport over the last few years, but Skoob vs Rob is the first time one of these major storylines will conclude with a trilogy.
Rob’s breakout performance in the space was his stunning 15-0 shutout of Skoob in their first meeting at Frigmas 2023. It was just a case of something we’ve seen from Rob many times in the years since. When his jumper starts falling automatically, you don’t really have much chance of stopping him from getting to the rim either. It doesn’t really matter who’s guarding him.
When Skoob finally got his rematch in February 2025, he came out of the gates with an intensity and will to win that would have led him to victory against an army that night. He weathered every storm Rob threw his way and threw haymaker after haymaker of his own, earning a 31-21 victory that revealed a pretty undeniable truth: there would eventually be a definitive third matchup.

Skoob enters Redemption on a run that rivals some of the best he’s put together in his storied 1v1 career to this point, with five consecutive wins over formidable opponents including Jerome Randle, Shane Gatling and Darius “DA” Adams. In his last pay-per-view appearance against Keyon Menefield at All In, he pulled off a handful of viral moves en route to a 31-24 victory over the rising young talent.
When it comes to resumes in the 1v1 space, I don’t think anyone is going to argue that Uncle Skoob’s belongs on the Mt. Rushmore. He’s been a staple on more high-level cards and pay-per-view events than anyone else in the sport, and no one has put on a show more consistently than he has. Seriously, when was the last time you watched an Uncle Skoob match and your eyes weren’t glued to the screen? I’ll wait.
Anyway, before Skoob completes his historic trilogy against Rob Colon at Redemption in Detroit on September 26, he spoke with Ballislife.com about the matchup.

Uncle Skoob Speaks
You and Rob are set for the most anticipated grudge match we’ve ever seen in the space. With all of the potential matchups you could take, why was it important to settle this score with Rob and put a definitive end to that chapter?
I think it's important for the scene itself, the 1v1 scene as a whole. If I'm not mistaken, I think this is the first trilogy in the 1v1 scene, to be honest. The first major trilogy. So, that itself tells you how big the matchup is and how I think this game right here will push the scene forward.
You’ve been on a great run this summer and it seems like every time you add even more to your arsenal. Do you feel like this is the best you’ve ever been? How confident are you entering these matchups when you’re in this kind of zone?
Every time I step on the court, I definitely feel like it's the best I've ever been. And knowing how big this matchup is and how important it is, I've been making sure I stay pretty sharp. When I enter these matchups, I try to just kind of actually zone out and not pay attention to how big the matchup is. I don't really think about the crowd or anything. I just focus on the work that I put in and I focus on taking away my opponent's strengths. And, you know, we go from there. We live with the result
Whenever there’s a big pay-per-view event like this, it feels like you always rise to the occasion with your performance. Do you feel like your performance elevates when the lights get brighter or is it always just business as usual?
I think that goes back to my focus coming into the game. Like, I don't really look at it like, ‘Oh, this, the lights are bright this time’. I really kind of look at it, like, I realize who I'm playing. I know the stakes of this matchup and I just go in there and focus on my opponent and focus on me. And, you know, I guess we always get what we get, you know, but I really only just focus on my work and I just focus on taking my opponent's strengths away.

You’ve faced just about everyone you can face in 1v1 and have arguably the best resume in the sport. With that being said, where would you rank Rob among your toughest opponents?
I think Rob is definitely top five toughest opponents, just because he beat me, of course. And when he did beat me the first time, it was pretty bad, so I'd be a fool to say he's not in my top five opponents, maybe top three. You know what I mean? All respect to Rob. I think he's definitely a great player, but like I said in previous interviews, it's not really about how great Rob is. It's kind of about what I know I do, and I plan on showing that September 26th.
What would you say are your biggest keys to victory in this matchup?
I think my biggest key is, and I know this might sound repetitive, but I think my biggest key for this victory is trusting the work, staying calm and sticking to the game plan.
After Rob, what’s next for you in 1v1? Who else do you want to see?
I would definitely want to see Eugene German because I feel like that's something on my resume. I don't want to say it tarnishes it, but it bothers me. It's not really about what other people say, but me personally. I would love to play Eugene German.
