More Caitlin Clark mastery helped the Indiana Fever end their road trip on a vital high note.
History from Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark continues to be one of the most contagious happenings in the WNBA this season.
Clark set yet another WNBA landmark during Sunday's game against the Chicago Sky with a 37-point, 10-assist double-double in a 113-90 victory.
Such a box score could be considered routine for Clark, who now has five games with at least 30 and 10 in the respective categories. But her prowess entered a whole new brand of exclusivity on Sunday, as she has now put up more such games than every other player in WNBA history combined. Four other players (Jia Perkins, Diana Taurasi, Skylar Diggins, and Sabrina Ionescu) have pulled off the feat but each has done so only once.

On a more personal level, Clark also set a new career-high with eight 3-pointers, besting her previous best of seven that she established three times. That was part of viral outside shooting for the Fever (25-14), who sank a franchise single-game best 18 in the silencing of the Sky.
True to form, Clark credited an all-around team effort for Indiana's latest successful outing: Lexie Hull had her best offensive night since July 8 with a 6-of-8 shooting output while Mercedes Russell was a plus-18 on a night where Aliyah Boston sat due to a lower leg injury.
"I thought me and Kelsey [Mitchell] did a really good job in the second half of playing split game and shallowing out of cuts, playing pitch and just putting them in a lot of action where they had to pick and choose between the two of us and cause some confusion," Clark said of Sunday's win. "Additionally, I thought we played well in transition, but that was because I thought we got stops, especially in the fourth quarter. That was when we were able to put them away."

Sunday's game between the Fever and Sky had plenty of extracurriculars to go around.
It was, for example, the first game between the two sides since DiJonai Carrington was ejected from the prior get-together on Aug. 8 due to a hard foul on Sophie Cunningham. An appearance from Enes Kanter Freedom also raised tensions, which came to a head when Sky guard Natasha Cloud confronted the former NBA veteran and current political commentator late in the third quarter.
Clark's mastery at least somewhat allowed the conversation to return to basketball, as she came up big on another night that was vital for Indiana's playoff seeding. It was part of a larger workload for Clark, who had to work without fellow headliner Boston but Indianapolis sanity nonetheless prevailed thanks to Clark and the final third of the top trio, as she and Mitchell united to score 42 of Indiana's 63 points over the latter 20 minutes. It was part of an appropriate tally of 23 second-half points for Mitchell, whose WNBA record streak of 20-point games extended to, ironically enough, 23.
Together, Clark and Mitchell have also earned dueling 30-point games on three occasions in their two-plus years of collaboration to set yet another WNBA record. They penned Sunday's happy ending by scoring each of the Fever's first 10 points in a fourth quarter that saw a six-point lead inflate to as much as 25.

Caitlin Clark for MVP?
Mitchell's case for Most Valuable Player was perhaps self-explanatory considering not only her modern scoring work but her efforts in essentially captaining the Fever's ship once Clark and several others went down with injuries last year. Having watched the Fever fall one game short of the WNBA Finals, Clark has made up for lost time and then some, all while wedging her name into the MVP discussion.
Clark has been on a tear since the All-Star break, even by her own skyscraping standards. She leads all participants with nine assists per game in that span and she's the third-leading scorer by the same metric behind only Mitchell and A'ja Wilson. Indiana is fifth on the leaderboard entering Monday play but is a game-and-a-half behind No. 2 Golden State.
Clark has averaged 24.5 points and 8.7 assists in this 4-2 stretch that was staged over the last 10 days. No matter what transpires in the national MVP conversation, it won't take much to convince the well-traveled Fever faithful that Clark should be included in such vocal sparring.
Clark's next chance to make history lands on Friday night when the Fever host the Connecticut Sun (7:30 p.m. ET, Ion).
