San Francisco and the Bay Area is getting their first WNBA All-Star Game.
The league announced its plans for the 2027 game on Tuesday. It is set to be played on July 31 at Chase Center during the Golden State Valkyries' third season.
Golden State began play in 2025 as the first WNBA expansion franchise in 17 years. Commissioner Cathy Engelbert credited Bay Area fans for embracing the Valkyries since the franchise was announced in 2023.
“We are thrilled to bring AT&T WNBA All-Star to the San Francisco Bay Area for the first time,” Engelbert said in a league statement. “The Golden State Valkyries have brought incredible energy and excitement to the WNBA from the moment they were announced as an expansion team in 2023, and the response from fans across the Bay Area has been remarkable. Valkyries fans have embraced this team with an extraordinary level of passion and enthusiasm, and we can’t wait to see that energy on full display for an unforgettable All-Star weekend next summer.”
Perfect Attendance
To Engelbert's point, all 22 Golden State home dates sold out in 2025. The Valkyries averaged 18,064 fans a game and total attendance was 397,408, both setting league records.
In April, Golden State announced that its 2026 season tickets inventory was sold out, with more than 12,000 wanting in after the Valkyries reached the playoffs in their first year. As of Tuesday's announcement, all 41 regular-season home games that the Valkyries have played to date has been a sellout.
“Hosting AT&T WNBA All-Star in only our third season is an incredible honor and a reflection of everything this fanbase, this region, and this organization have built together,” Valkyries president Jess Smith said in the statement. “From day one, the Bay Area has shown up for this team in a way that’s redefined what’s possible in women’s basketball, and we can’t wait to put that same energy on display for the entire league next summer.”
WNBA All-Star Weekend Schedule
The Friday, July 30 schedule at Chase Center includes the 3-Point Contest and Shooting Stars. ESPN will televise the events at 8 p.m. ET and ABC has the All-Star Game on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
The WNBA Live fan festival moves away from Chase Center, set to be staged at nearby Moscone Center. Events will also take place throughout the Bay Area. In the announcement, the WNBA revealed that it has community programs, watch parties, and other fan activities planned.

The Bay Area Host Committee was established in 2022 and has worked on bids for several of the region’s major sporting events.
Chase Center hosted NBA All-Star Weekend in February 2025, a year before Super Bowl LX was played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. The home of the San Francisco 49ers also hosted men's matches the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Host Committee CEO Zaileen Janmohamed said the region is ready to take the same approach with the WNBA event.
“The 2027 WNBA All-Star Game coming to the Bay Area is a testament to what the Golden State Valkyries have built in such a short time … a passionate fanbase, sellout energy, and a community that has embraced women’s basketball at scale,” Janmohamed said. “It’s also a reflection of our region’s proven track record with major events, having successfully hosted NBA All-Star 2025, Super Bowl LX, and FIFA World Cup games. We’re ready to bring that same world-class approach to WNBA All-Star 2027.”
Bay Area Adds WNBA All-Star To Recent Event List
Another All-Star event is already headed to San Francisco. Major League Baseball announced that the San Francisco Giants will host its 2028 All-Star Game at Oracle Park earlier on Friday. The Chicago Cubs have the 2027 game at Wrigley Field.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie included the WNBA among the events the city has hosted or landed.
“In the last two years, the Golden State Valkyries have taken the world by storm. San Francisco’s recovery has done the same,” Lurie said. “People are coming from across the world to visit our city, and we’re excited to welcome even more for the 2027 WNBA All-Star Game.”
“San Francisco is the center of the sports world. After we hosted the Super Bowl, FIFA World Cup, and NBA All-Star Weekend, we are bringing the MLB All-Star Game and Vogue World to our city—because the world can see that San Francisco is the place to be. When the WNBA’s best come next year, our unmatched passion for women’s sports, and our city’s comeback, will be on full display.”
Golden State Clinches Another Playoff Berth
The All-Star announcement came less than 24 hours after the Valkyries (25-9) clinched another playoff spot Monday night. Golden State earned both the berth and its sixth straight win by defeating the Dallas Wings 78-70. The win also completed a 3-0 season sweep of Dallas.
Gabby Williams, an All-Star starter in Chicago last month, scored 23 points with seven rebounds. Veronica Burton finished with 16 points and five assists. Golden State's record is second-best in the W entering Tuesday, behind only the Minnesota Lynx. The Valkyries and Lynx are set to face off at Chase Center on Wednesday night (7 p.m. PT, USA).
In 2025, the Valkyries finished 23-21 and took the eighth seed before losing to Minnesota in the first round. Natalie Nakase won Coach of the Year and Burton earned Most Improved Player. The Valkyries became the first WNBA expansion team to make the playoffs in their debut season.
With her All-Star starting spot, Williams became the first Golden State player to earn the honor. She was the second Valkyrie named to the game overal after Kayla Thornton went last year. Before Williams started, Janelle Salaün became the first Golden State player to compete in the 3-Point Contest in Chicago.
