Kelsey Mitchell has officially carved her name into the WNBA record books.
The Indiana Fever guard has scored at least 20 points in 21 consecutive games, breaking A’ja Wilson’s previous league record of 20 straight 20-point performances. What began as an impressive scoring stretch has now become one of the most remarkable individual streaks in WNBA history.
Mitchell has been a consistent offensive force for the Fever throughout the season. Her historic run has showcased not only her scoring ability but also her importance to Indiana’s success. Thursday night, however, the Fever’s 91-85 loss to the Dallas Wings overshadowed Mitchell’s special moment. Mitchell ended the night with 37 points and 5 assists while shooting 50% from the field and a perfect 15-of-15 from the free-throw line.

Mitchell’s Historic Run
The record came on a night when Mitchell and the Fever had plenty to be disappointed about. With 4.4 seconds left in the second quarter, Mitchell secured the magic 20 points needed to break Wilson's record.
However, in a back-and-forth game against the Wings, it was ultimately not the night for the Fever as a whole. While the loss overshadowed what was otherwise a historic individual accomplishment, Mitchell made it clear after the game that personal statistics aren't her main focus.
When asked about breaking Wilson's record, Mitchell emphasized that the ultimate goal is to win games.
“I don't really take statistics really that serious. So a lot of this stuff is really circumstantial to me. I want to get the dub, and we didn't get that. So I think keeping the focus on the right thing, keeping the main thing the main thing is important."
That response perfectly captures Mitchell's approach to this season. Even with a huge personal milestone, the focus remains on winning games and competing for a championship. Mitchell did joke, however, "I just wanna congratulate my team for making me look good."
Rather than focusing on the record or celebrating her place in WNBA history, Mitchell has continued to approach each game with the same mentality.

Wilson's previous record was another example of the Las Vegas Aces star's dominance as one of the league's premier scorers. For Wilson, her streak began in 2023 against the New York Liberty. However, Wilson's streak extended into the 2024 season. For Mitchell, her streak continued in a single season.

Before Wilson, Diana Taurasi previously held the record with 13 consecutive 20-point games. Looking at how far the league has come, 21 consecutive 20-point games is not simply a hot streak. It is sustained production at one of the highest levels the WNBA has seen.
While Mitchell doesn't seem interested in making the moment bigger than it needs to be, fans and media can celebrate the record. With everything surrounding the Indiana Fever this season, this is exactly the kind of moment needed to quiet the outside noise.
