Remember When Candace Parker Beat Josh & JR Smith In The McDonalds Dunk Contest?

Zion Williamson might have won the 2018 Powerade Jam Fest but UConn commit Olivia Nelson-Ododa stole the show. The 6'4" female Mcdonalds All-American made it to the finals against the 6'6" man-child but failed to beat the Duke commit who will probably also have an NBA Dunk contest trophy in the near future.

I'm sure many of you thought Olivia didn't have a chance of beating the best dunker in high school but I thought the same thing back in 2004, when 6'4" Candace Parker beat Josh Smith (winner of the 2005 NBA dunk contest), J.R Smith (lost to Josh in the 2005 NBA dunk contest) and Rudy Gay (2008 NBA dunk contest contestant) in the McDonalds All-American event. I know, I know, Parker did the same one-hand dunk in every round. My response to that is she was smart enough to know what she could do and needs to do to keep advancing and her competition wasn't.

We also have to give a shout out to 6'3" Breanna Stewart, who threw down two dunks during the event in 2012, also went to UConn and is now playing and throwing down dunks in the WNBA. The 2012 contest was won by Bad Azz Shabazz Muhammad and featured Marcus Smart and former NBA No. 1 pick/bust Anthony Bennett.
