Meet the Kevin Durant of the D-League. His name is Pierre Jackson, he’s 5’10,” was the 42nd pick in the draft by the 76ers and currently plays for Idaho……..OK, but like KD, especially in the past month, Pierre has been on fire: He’s averaging 30.2 points a game and with 6 40+ games under his belt so far this season. The ex-Baylor star also blew up for a D-league record 58 points in last night’s 136-122 win over the Texas Legends. The 53 broke Morris Almond and Will Conroy’s record of 53 points set 4 years ago.
After a season-low 8 points in his last game, Jackson rebounded with an unconscious 24 of 33 from the field and 7 of 13 from downtown. He scored 20 in the first half, 11 in the 3rd and then blew up for 27 (11-14 shooting) in the 4th quarter and even had a 2-minute span where he scored 12 points.
SCORING BREAKDOWN BY QUARTER
- First: 5-6 on field goals / 0-1 on threes / 1-1 on free throws / 1 rebounds / 3 assists / 11 total points
- Second: 4-8 on field goals / 1-3 on threes / 0-0 on free throws / 2 rebounds / 3 assists / 9 total points
- Third: 4-5 on field goals / 2-3 on threes / 1-1 on free throws / 3 rebounds / 2 assists / 11 total points
- Fourth: 11-14 on field goals / 4-6 on threes / 1-2 on free throws / 0 rebounds / 0 assists / 27 total points
Unlike a lot of the criticism that scorers like Melo and Kobe receive when they have 50+ games, Jackson, who is 8th in the league in assists with a 6.2 average, gets his share of assists and dished out 8 assists to go with his 58 points. In the Stampede’s previous game, Jackson had 18 assists and 12 in the game before that.
Not mentioned in all of the above is that Pierre has a crazy 40+ inch vertical and can throw down some serious dunks despite being under 6 foot. Check out this mix we did last year.
