As much fun as fans are having counting Russell Westbrook’s triple-doubles and comparing his streaks with Michael Jordan’s, the feeling isn’t mutual with Westbrook. Actually, it’s pissing him off.
“Honestly, man, people and this triple-double thing is kind of getting on my nerves, really,” Westbrook said after the Thunder’s loss to the Jazz. “People think if I don’t get it, it’s like a big thing. When I do get it, it’s a thing. If y’all just let me play – if I get it, I get it. If I don’t, I don’t care. It is what it is. I really don’t care. For the hundredth time. I don’t care. All I care about is winning, honestly. All the numbers shit don’t mean nothing to me.”
When asked if he thinks it’s realistic for him to keep up his season average of 31.1 points, 10.9 boards and 11 assists a game, he gave a typical Westbrook response that didn’t end with a question.
“I don’t know what’s realistic,” Westbrook said. “I just go out and play every night, man. That’s it. I really don’t care what people think is real or not.”
I get why he feels the way he does but as a Fantasy basketball fanatic, I’ll speak on behalf of everybody on Fanduel, DraftKings and every other platform and say, “We care!” And we love the fact that he’s doing something we all thought would be impossible to do for even half a season. So keep it up and just ignore us and our compliments and conversations about your numbers.
FYI: Westbrook has 12 triple-doubles this season which is the same amount as Harden (5), LeBron (3), Giannis (2), Draymond (1) and CP3 (1) combined.
