(Insert your favorite acronym here) to describe Jordan “Mission Impossible” Kilganon’s “Upside Down” dunk.
During the 2016 NBA All-Star game, Jordan Kilganon went from Youtube viral dunker – remember the “Lost & Found” dunk – to TV viral dunker after throwing down his trademark Scorpion dunk while wearing jeans. Then in the summer, he put on a dunk show in Rio that left NBA legends Gary Payton and Glen Rice speechless and the NBA’s most popular online videos in the dust! What was that? Did I just say Jordan Kilganon has the most popular online video from the NBA? Yes, this dunking Jordan has more video views on a NBA channel than any video by Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Steph Curry.
The video was posted on Facebook (a Youtube version is shown below since embedding has been disabled) back on August 19th and it now has over 87 million views (keep in mind, Facebook does “cheat” on views and counts a view after just 3 seconds) and has been shared over 1.5 million times. To put those numbers in perspective, LeBron’s GM7 block has 7.3 million views and 82K shares. The most popular video on the NBA YouTube channel is a LeBron and Shaq dance-off from 2007 with 23,3 million views. The most popular Michael Jordan video on YouTube is a Jordan vs Ali clip from Key and Peele with 44 million views; 2nd is a Michael Jordan Top 50 Plays compilation with 34 million; LeBron’s most popular vid has 15 million; Kobe’s has 144 million and that’s because Lionel Messi is in it. Kobe’s most popular video without the soccer legend is 19 million.
What kind of flew under the radar was his shocking performance at “The Dunk King” TV show/contest earlier this year. It was shocking because of the dunks he pulled off and because he somehow lost!
