Vintage Rajon Rondo Had 11/14/9/5 In GM2, Says His Former Team “Gave Up”

Russell Westbrook might be the new Mr Triple-Double but when it comes to the playoffs, there’s only three players in NBA history with more triple-doubles than Rajon Rondo: Magic Johnson (30), LeBron James (16) and Jason Kidd (11).

On Tuesday, the former Celtic almost pulled off his 11th playoff triple-double in the first half and finished the game with 11 points, a game-high 14 assists, team-high 9 boards and 5 steals as the #8 seed Bulls took a 2-0 lead on his former team. The loss for Boston made them just the second #1 seed in NBA history to start the playoffs 0-2.

After the game, Rondo’s former teammate Avery Bradley said he heard Rondo telling his teammates, “Yeah, the gave up. They gave up.

“You never can let a team see that. You have to continue to be positive and go out there and play hard no matter what the outcome is.

“I looked around and a few times in the game guys were putting their heads down, I think getting down on themselves. But as a team we have to stay together. The other team is looking at that. They’re using that as motivation for themselves.”

I’m not going to say the Celtics gave up but I am going to say I’m happy to see Rajon Rondo hasn’t and is back to playing like the vintage Rondo who is a triple-double threat when games really matter.
