It was just two months ago when we were saying how excited we were to see Yi Jianlian back in the NBA, after a 4-year hiatus, and sign with the LA Lakers.
On Sunday, the “Lakers best shooting big man” requested the Lakers release him so he could find a better fit on another NBA team. On Monday, the Lakers granted his wish and cut him.
“Yi was productive in practices and games with us, and was a consummate professional both on and off the court,” said General Manager Mitch Kupchak. “However, he felt that the minutes and opportunities he’d be afforded here were not in line with his goals and ambitions, and that he’d be better off in a different situation. We appreciate his efforts and wish him great success as he goes forward with his career.”
During the preseason, Yi averaged just 3 shots a game in 11 minutes of playing time.
