The Quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section tournament game between National Powerhouse Mater Dei High School and Roosevelt High School was close…until the second quarter. In the first quarter Matt Mitchell made it competitive but it was known that no one would really be scoring inside 15 feet on Roosevelt too often with 7 foot Bol Bol guarding the paint. Once the 3’s stopped falling, Mater Dei capitalized on turnovers and a team effort having 3 players in double figures. Roosevelt was led by Matt Mitchell (18 points) and Jared Williams (18 points) but shot 7 for 23 from behind the arc according to ocvarsity.com.

Mater Dei will move on to face Chino Hills on Friday at USC’s Galen Center in the semi final game while Sierra Canyon faces Bishop Montgomery prior. The finals will be on the following night at the Galen Center.

Side note, Chino Hills beat Mater Dei 102-54 in the open division Semi’s last year. They faced off at the Tarkanian Classic Championship game in December and Chino won 84-73.
