There’s no team in this tournament that was the same height as Vashon players, so going into each game no matter which side of the bracket Vashon is placed, They’re still going to be tested as the “Undersized” team on how they can managed to out-rebound the giants and score with a shot clock running. Vashon lost in the first round against the #4 ranked undefeated team in the country (St. Benedict’s Prep) by 9 points which after the game, the Saint Louis squad knew they can be a special team so moving on to the consolation side of the bracket, They had to show the East Coast that still need the respect deserve coming into this tournament. Moving forward to the Consolation championship against Our Savior (NY), Vashon started off sticking with the game plan and led the team by 10+ points in the first quarter but going into halftime, the height got to them as Our Savior were just dominating the paint with the rebounds and non-stop dunks which broke the deficit and Our Savior took the lead by 3 points at half-time. Second half gets by and the lead went from three to 11 points from Our Savior lead over Vashon but the wolverines wasn’t going down like that as Mario Mckinney and Cam’Ron Fletcher steps up big time with their ridiculous three point shots making the game all tied up in the final second of the game. As Vashon was stalling the shot clock out, the team was passing the ball so quick that it slipped out and Our Savior had the chance to make the game winner but got fouled by Mario Mckinney which was a huge mistake that could’ve cost the game. Our Savior player made 1/2 free throw so Vashon had one last chance in the final 7 seconds, and Mario attempts the three point shot but misses which had every heads down for a quick second then erupts as Cyrus Alexander gets the rebound and banks in the game winning layup to get the 66-65 victory for the Consolation Championship.
