The arrival of former Ballislife All-American Collin Sexton has me excited about Alabama basketball for the fist time since....probably the early 90s when Latrell Sprewell and Robert Horry were taking on Shaq and LSU. There's been some exciting high-flyers since those days -- like Antonio McDyess and Gerald Wallace -- but I wasn't "excited" about them because I didn't know much about them when they arrived on the Alabama college campus. I'm excited about seeing Sexton -- who went from an unknown and unranked high school player to a five-star (top 10 in the country) high school player over one summer -- because there's a good chance he will be a top five pick in next year's NBA draft and if you have ever watched him play, you know how intense (borderline psychotic looking) he gets. And that type of intensity in a crazy college atmosphere should result in some great entertainment.
Here's a few highlights from a recent open scrimmage in front of a couple thousand Crimson Tide fans at the Coleman Coliseum and a quote about Sexton from Coach Avery Johnson: "He can do everything: Pass, dribble and shoot. That's what we need. And the teams we're chasing, their freshmen are high level players and they come in the door ready to play."
