2028 Standouts From TCU Elite Camp!

The TCU Elite Camp has been one that has held quality depth in the rising freshman through junior classes in recent years. The 2025 edition was no different. Here are my 2028 standouts from this past Sunday.

Xavier Young Was The Best Player

Xavier Young of Faith Family (Dallas Oak Cliff, Texas), a top 20 player in the country, was impressive. He has added weight to his frame and his footwork and touch with either hand has noticeably improved, too. There were things he was doing on the court that no one in the camp could do. How he covers ground on defense, nose for the ball and playing above the rim in tight spaces. Oh and he’ll be 15 years old for a while. Young is the type of player that could see his name amongst the top 5-10 of his class nationally throughout his high school career.

Other TCU Elite Camp 2028 Standouts

Max Moody, 6’0 CG – Stony Point: Skilled guard that knows how to play and scores within the flow of the game. Showed quality self creation skills and off the catch shooting. Liked how he moved without the ball in his hands, which allowed him to get open looks.

Josiah Rose, 6’3 SG – Faith Family: Strong body southpaw guard that was more of a ball-mover and playmaker. He got to the teeth of the defense, made the right reads, which led to an open look, an assist or hockey assist. He was assertive with the ball in his hands, but his impact wasn’t with scoring.

Bae Bae Groom, 6’0 CG – Duncanville: Groom can really shoot the ball, but what stood out to me was how he utilizes his length on both ends. To get a shot off vs a hard closeout and defensively to tip passes or snag a rebound. He’s good as an off-the-catch guy when it comes to shooting or attacking a closeout. One of the better overall performers at camp.

Cameron Crenshaw, 6’8 PF – San Antonio Wagner: Crenshaw is an intriguing forward. Skinny but has a plus wingspan and moves well. I liked how he defended in the post, competed and was active on the glass. He’s a solid finisher, and I think he’ll be better once he gets stronger. More prospect than player, but I do think he’ll be really good later on.

Jax Sharum, 6’0 SG – New Wave Academy: Shot the ball well from deep. Always ready to shoot it and connect with minimal space needed. He plays with an edge and chip on his shoulder that allows him to be impactful. Reminds me a little bit of West Texas A&M freshman Cam Cowgill.

Felix Okam, 6’8 PF/C (2029) – Grand Prairie: The only 2029 to crack this list. Okam is an active forward with some intriguing skill. He competed and held his own vs the older guys, which was impressive. Plays with his length and is a quality shot-blocker. Motor, intensity and mobility stood out.

Eric Ekwegbara, 6’5 PF – Houston Heights: He just played hard and was everywhere in my opinion. Scrapped for loose balls, fought on the glass and finished through contact. Nothing fancy but just was a big-time competitor.

Kingston Gould, 6’2 PG – Burkburnett: Last but not least, with Gould, I was impressed with his scoring prowess. Off the dribble shooting stood out. Can play off it and connect on shots, too. Good creating space off step-backs and has adequate elevation on shot.
