Prospect Review: John Lucas Be Elite Camp

John Lucas’ Be Elite Camp is an event media and NBA Scouts mark on their calendar to attend. The 2025 iteration of the NBA certified camp provided a high quality of 2027-2029 prospects to evaluate this past weekend. Let’s dive in.

2027 Reese Alston Made A Loud Statement

The son of former NBA guard Rafer Alston was the best guard prospect and performer at the camp. A skilled and crafty guard that blends playmaking and scoring well. Strong coming off ball-screens, putting the defender in jail, surveying the floor and making the right decision. Adequate mid-range pull-up game, can make accurate passes off the live dribble with either hand and a creative finisher. Vertically, he has improved as he’s making plays above the rim. In stride without taking a dribble and taking off or straight off vert he can dunk.

2030 David Moudouyi Made Eye Popping Plays

In my opinion, was the best prospect at the camp. Six-foot-9 with legit perimeter skills and it looked fairly fluid. Long arms, athletic and gets off the ground quick and high jumping off one foot or two. Made a couple threes off the dribble but I wouldn’t say that’s a strong attribute of his game yet, but he can make them from time to time. Moudouyi can attack with either hand, he’s mobile, has good hands and defensively, he made presence felt as a rim protector. Not just blocking shots but altering attempts at the rim. Combination of athleticism, size and skill at his age was eye popping.

2028 Erick Dampier Jr. Proved his 5 Star Status

He was the best big at the camp. Strong built, traditional big with a high quality back to the basket game. He has a soft touch around the rim. Made hook shots with either hand and challenged a lot of shots at the rim. A good vertical athlete at this age and he caught all the passes and lobs thrown to him. Passed it well out of the post and made the right read off double teams. There wasn’t a player with his blend of size, strength, athleticism, skill and experience vs high level talent. Dampier imposed his will.

More Event Standouts

Herbert Wekem, 6’9 2029 PF – Jordan Christian Prep (FL): Was the best 2029 performer at the camp. Equipped with long arms and plays with it on both ends. He’s agile, plays hard and has a nose for the ball. Rebounded it and would take it coast to coast and end with dunks. He uses euro steps on drives, which allows him to evade defenders. Big time shot blocker and even when he would get beat off the dribble, he has long strides and uses it to cover ground and impact the shot attempt. Wekem just played very hard and was flying around the court each possession.

T.J. Jamison, 6’2 2027 PG – Calvary Baptist (LA): Scoring PG that’s quick off the bounce, scores it from deep. Crafty finisher that knows how to navigate vs. traffic and length. Above average athlete with adequate end to end speed. Changes speeds well and plays with a good level of toughness. Dependable 3-point shooter that can get hot quick. Jamison possesses solid passer feel and accuracy, but is a score first guard.

Isaiah Santos, 6’5 2027 SF – Seven Lakes (TX): A bully wing that plays taller than his listed height. He’s probably 6’4 more than he’s 6’5, but he plays like he’s 6’8. Good two foot vertical athlete that gets off the ground quick. Outlier motor who rebounds the ball well and plays through contact. Slasher that’s a physical driver, initiates and embraces contact and finishes. Santos stays in attack mode and throws his body around.

Blaze Johnson, 6’4 2028 CG – Overtime Elite (GA): Southpaw combo guard that has a good feel for the game. Stayed in attack mode, can drive with either hand and finish with either as well. I think he’s more of a 2 than a 1. Better scoring off the ball in spot up scenarios. Shot it well from three off the catch. Johnson is quick, has a strong handle and showed he can generate his own offense off the bounce.

D.J. Okoth, 6’7 2027 SF – Bartlett (TN): Athletic wing with a 6’10 wingspan. Was dunking the ball anytime the opportunity presented itself. Active, rebounded well on both ends and has good anticipation and awareness on defense. Deflected passes, guarded multiple positions and altered shots at the rim. Offensively, the scoring is mainly inside the arc if that’s off straight line drives, cutting or being in the dunker spot.

Draydne McDaniel, 6’8 2029 PF/SF – Prolific Prep (FL): It’s early, but throughout the spring/summer, he was the best 2029 prospect I saw. A southpaw, big-time athletic forward that flies around the court. A well built frame and thrives in transition as a finisher. There’s some promise as a shooter as well. Long strides, covers ground well defensively and can guard multiple spots. When McDaniel gets downhill, it’s hard to contain him as he’ll finish above the rim.

Howard Williams, 6’7 SF – Overtime Elite (GA): Wiry strong wing that scores it well inside the arc. Mid-post, pull-up shooter, physical driver to the rim. He had one of the most impressive bodies at the camp. Williams utilized strength and skill to score the ball.
