Allisha Gray, A’ja Wilson Named August WNBA Players of the Month

The WNBA’s stretch run has showcased both rising stars and established champions, and two standout performers have separated themselves from the pack. The league announced Tuesday that Allisha Gray of the Atlanta Dream and A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces have been named WNBA Players of the Month for August.

Both players led their teams to playoff-clinching success while making history along the way. Gray became the first guard in league history to win the monthly award three times in a single season, while Wilson added to her resume with a league-record 13th career honor.

Allisha Gray’s Historic August

Gray earned the Eastern Conference award after averaging 19.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists on 48.5 percent shooting. Her consistency anchored Atlanta’s 9-3 record in August, helping the Dream clinch a playoff berth and set a new franchise high for single-season victories.

The month was filled with milestones. Gray surpassed 400 career 3-pointers, becoming the 37th player in WNBA history to reach the mark. She also passed Angel McCoughtry for the most points scored in a single season in franchise history and logged her 37th consecutive double-digit scoring effort, another team record.

One of her top outings came against Minnesota, when she posted 27 points, four rebounds and three steals.

A’ja Wilson Extends Her Legacy

Wilson captured the Western Conference honor after averaging a league-best 25.5 points and 11.8 rebounds, along with 2.4 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.4 steals in 13 games. She powered the Aces to a 12-game winning streak, tying a franchise record, while posting eight double-doubles and six 30-point games.

By earning her 13th monthly award, Wilson passed Tina Charles for the most in league history. The three-time MVP and Defensive Player of the Year candidate has now scored at least 20 points per game in every month of the 2025 season. She also picked up three consecutive Player of the Week awards in August, bringing her career total to 27 — tied with Candace Parker for second-most all-time.

Through Sept. 1, Wilson leads the WNBA in blocks per game (2.2), total points (841), points off turnovers (4.6) and second-chance points (3.7). She also ranks second in scoring (23.4), rebounds (10.1) and total blocks (80), reinforcing her dominance on both ends of the floor.

Together, Gray and Wilson’s accolades underline the balance of emerging and established talent defining this year’s playoff race. Atlanta enters the final stretch tied for the No. 2 seed at 26-14, while Las Vegas continues to surge behind its superstar forward.
