Illinois high school basketball has been dominated by the Chicago Public League recently. Last season, Chicago teams won state titles in Classes 4a, 3a, and 2a.
But suburban teams like Bolingbrook and now Romeoville have started making noise. Bolingbrook has finished 3rd in state 2 of the last 3 seasons. Their neighbors Romeoville
have perhaps their most talented basketball team in school history. The 2 undefeated teams (both top 7 in the Chicago Sun Times poll) met in a non-conference game at
sold-out Romeoville's gym.
Bolingbrook was led by big Tyler Cochran (19 points, 11 rebounds) who came off the bench with an injured ankle to lead the Raiders. Guards Joseph Yesufu (12 points, 7 rebounds) and Kaleb Thornton (19 points, 6 assists) also stood out.
Romeoville was led by senior PG Deandre Heckard (15 points), athletic transfer Eddie Creal (16 points, 5 rebounds) and Dontia Johnson (12 points) among others.
A one-point game at half, Bolingbrook's pressure dominated the third quarter leading to an eventual 83-63 win.
