The red hot Pelicans were just seconds away from celebrating a victory against the Rockets when disaster struck. After missing a free throw, DeMarcus Cousins hustled for an offensive bound and ended up tearing his Achilles. The noncontact injury will shut the All-Star starter down for the rest of the season, which has been a spectacular one for Boogie, who had a triple-double (15/13/11) for the second time in three games.
"Just unfortunate, really. I think we've been doing really well, got in a great groove," Said teammate Jrue Holiday. "The way we've been playing, and him in particular, has been awesome."
Here's a few fantasy gems Boogie produced this season.
- Bulls: 44 PTS, 23 REBS, 10 ASTS, 5 3PTS, 4 STLS
- Kings: 41 PTS, 23 REBS, 6 ASTS
- Nuggets: 40 PTS, 22 PTS, 4 BLKS
- Mavs: 32 PTS, 20 REBS, 8 ASTS, 5 BLKS, 3 3PTS
- Blazers: 24 PTS, 19 REBS, 8 ASTS, 3 3PTS
- Grizzlies: 29 PTS, 8 REBS, 5-8 3PTS
"I feel horrible for him," Said coach Alvin Gentry. "Everything that he's done, and what he's tried to do for us this year and what he's made himself and the improvements in all areas that he's made on and off the court, has just been great. I don't want that to happen to a guy that's trying to better himself."
As expected, the NBA family took to social media to show their support. Players included LeBron James, who drafted him during the NBA All-Star draft earlier this week; players who have had beef with Boogie, like Meyers Leonard; And players who have suffered season-ending injuries in the past.
