A Sunday report from Shams Charania revealed that the Warriors added center/forward Al Horford to their cause on a multi-year deal. Horford recently ended the latter of two stints with the Boston Celtics, which featured a championship run in 2024.

Despite standing as one of the oldest active players in the league the 39-year-old Horford was a solid contributor for the Celtics’ recent run of prosperity, averaging 9.4 points and 6.6 rebounds over the past four tours. Horford previously repped the Celtics for three seasons between 2016 and 2019 and has also played for Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Oklahoma City.

“You … see his career, what he’s done and how he’s been the best player on his team, and then how he handles a situation like this, where there’s so much talent,” former green teammate Jrue Holiday said of Horford’s role for the contending group, per Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston. “He’s for sure a Hall of Famer, and I’m pretty sure Al could really be like strutting his stuff and he doesn’t. He’s so respectful, he’s so humble. Guys like that, you just want to run through a brick wall for.”

He became particularly renowned for his postseason work, serving as a starter in Boston’s recent playoff runs. Horford has appeared in 73 postseason games over the last four tournaments, second to only teammate Jaylen Brown in that span.

Horford’s Fit Alongside the Golden State Warriors and Steph Curry

Horford’s propensity to shoot the three, trying over four a game and hitting just under 40 percent during his last four-year term, should fit in very well with the Warriors, who continue to boast the services of Stephen Curry as well as Buddy Hield, who hit over two a game in his debut stanza in the Bay Area. Horford has sunk at least 100 3-pointers in each of the last three seasons and his total of 367 ranked ninth among players standing at 6-foot-9 or taller.

Horford is the latest casualty of a tough offseason for Boston, which has bid farewell to several contributors (i.e. Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis) from their record-extending 18th championship team to stay out of the restrictive second salary apron.

Golden State opens its 2025 preseason next Sunday night when it faces the Los Angeles Lakers in San Francisco (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).
