DJ Steward (Fenwick HS) had as good a freshman season as anyone we caught in-person. The 6'2 guard led his 30-win Fenwick team in scoring even though he wasn't sure he was going to make the varsity squad coming into the season!
Coming up just short in the 3A Illinois State Championship game, DJ finished with 26 points (10-10 FGs).
Steward played AAU basketball with Meanstreets 15U on the Nike circuit. We also caught Steward at Pangos Midwest Camp.
When asked, the slashing, shot-creating guard said he models his game after "someone like CJ McCollum." While he wasn't on the national (or local) radar heading into his freshman season, DJ Steward is definitely known now, heading into his sophomore season. As for recruiting, heading into his sophomore high school season, DJ Steward's offers include Georgia Tech, Illinois, UAB, DePaul, and Illinois State.
Check out these highlights from DJ Steward's freshman year (at Fenwick and with Meanstreets 15U)!
Ballislife will continue following DJ Steward through high school.
