Breakdown Fall League Week 1 Top Performers

The high school season is officially here in Minnesota.  While many states opt for individual scrimmages, the state of Minnesota tends to lean toward its teams playing in organized fall leagues, and no one is better than the Breakdown USA Fall League.  Held at locations throughout the state, the Breakdown league runs for four weeks in October and November to give fans, coaches, and players alike a glimpse of the top talent that the Land of 10,000 Lakes has to offer. 

Teams play two games a day throughout the four-week span, with the historic Hopkins Lindbergh Center serving as event headquarters. While some players may miss a week or so due to fall camps or college visits, for the most part, teams are what you’d see on opening night of the high school season.. It’s also the most convenient way to get much of the state’s talent all under one roof. 

While it was impossible to see everyone, here are the standouts from week 1 of the Breakdown Fall League:

Christian Wiggins, 6’5, SG, Wayzata HS (MN), 2026

The top senior in the state of Minnesota entered the Breakdown Fall League with an improved physique, and the added muscle showed in his play. Wiggins was in attack mode anytime that he had the ball in his hands, and elevated over smaller defenders with his pull-up jumper.  The boosted strength also helped the Iowa State recruit with his hands on the defensive end, which will certainly benefit him once he hits the gritty Big XII. 

Baboucarr Ann, 6’5, SG/SF, Maple Grove HS (MN), 2027

Right there in the mix as the top junior in the state of Minnesota, Baboucarr Ann has taken his confidence to new heights, and it reflected in his play at Breakdown. The lanky swingman was much more aggressive creating off the bounce, proving he could facilitate for others, and utilized his length to change plays on both ends of the floor.  Having played up at the 17U level with Adidas D1 Minnesota, Ann picked up offers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Iowa State, and Arizona State since the summer. 

Vincent Cronin, 6’7, SF/PF, Edina HS (MN), 2027

A player who has all of the tools that you look for in a new age forward, Vincent Cronin has a chance to take his game to new heights as a junior at Edina. He is super bouncy at 6-foot-7, has the range to get out and defend on the perimeter, and is a rapidly improving 3-point shooter.  Cronin is still a bit under the radar in Minnesota, but he has all of the tools and raw talent to blow up at any moment.

Jayden Moore, 6’0, PG, Hopkins HS (Minn.), 2026

The state’s best pure point guard lived up to his reputation at Breakdown, playing the role of a magician whenever he had the rock in his hands. Moore absolutely controlled the tempo of the game, was an outstanding on-ball defender, and knew exactly when and where to get his teammates the ball in scoring situations. A tough decision is looming for the senior, who holds high-major offers in football and is still considering all Division 1 suitors on the hardwood as well.

DeAngelo Dungey, 6’3, SG, Totino-Grace (Minn.), 2026

An absolute lockdown defender, DeAngelo Dungey embraced the task of guarding the opposing team’s best player on the hardwood throughout his two games at Breakdown. He was automatic from the wings, utilized his hands well defending on the perimeter, and brought energy on both ends of the floor that rubbed off on teammates.  Making the move to Totino-Grace after winning a state title at Breck, Dungey has the opportunity to provide a presence as a two-way guard for a loaded squad.

Tyler Forrest, 6’1, PG, Chaska HS (Minn.), 2027

Having played varsity since his middle school days for Chaska, Tyler Forrest is a player whom I have a pretty large sample size of and has continued to get better each season. He plays the game at his own pace, which allows him to throw opposing defenders’ timing off.  Automatic with his pull-up jumper, Forrest is doing a much better job of finishing through contact.  Having run with Howard Pulley on the EYBL, Tyler will look to build off a strong junior year with D1 Minnesota on the Adidas 3SSB circuit once the high school season is over.

Brayden Gorton, 6’9, C, Minneapolis Washburn (Minn.), 2026

The most productive big man that we saw in the opening week was Brayden Gorton, a skilled lefty from Minneapolis Washburn. He was outstanding passing the ball out of the high post, had really nice touch on his push shot/floater, and loved going to his left-hand jump hook. Gorton enters his senior campaign as one of the best players in the City League and will look to lead Washburn to yet another City League title.
