The First Look: 2027 Top Performers!

Continuing my coverage from The First Look at Waxahachie (Texas) last weekend, I dive in on the 2027 class top performers. Some did themselves plenty good from a national perspective and others have revealed themselves to show there’s more depth in the Southwest Region in the 2027 class than originally thought.

2027 PF/C Prospects

Steven McLeod, 6’7 PF – Grand Prairie: McLeod did himself a lot of good on Saturday. His motor stayed going and was active on the offensive glass. He faced up, finished through contact, had an array of moves to use on the block and showed off an improved handle when operating from 15-17 feet out.

Mustafa Muhammed, 6’9 PF – Melissa: He has improved noticeably since he moved from Minnesota to Texas. A tall and agile forward that flashes inside-out skill. He’s playing through contact better, protecting the rim and his best basketball ultimately is ahead of him.

Sekoku Tunkara, 6’8 PF – Uchenna Academy (CAN): A hard playing, long armed forward that was playing above the rim. Rebounded his tail off, altered several shots at the rim and ran the floors hard.

Timothy White, 6’9 C – Plano: Bruising big man that has a burly frame. Throws his body around in the paint and albeit being more of a below the rim athlete, he uses his size to create space for finishes. He’s very strong and physical.

Zyere Ceasar, 6’7 PF – Tyler Legacy: Lefty, stretch forward that is a solid off the catch shooter. Has a larger frame that still has a lot to build on and he has an intriguing skill-set. Just has to put it all together.

Abdoulaye Samoura Jr, 6’7 PF – CSJV (CAN): Spindly framed forward that’s agile and a good vertical athlete. Finished well around the rim, is an adequate off ball cutter and holds upside as a ball-handler, second side scorer.

KJ Cyres, 6’7 PF – Tyler Legacy: Hard-playing forward that gets to the right spots to receive the pass and finish. Always moving, aggressive on the glass and plays with good energy on both ends.

2027 Wings

Sun Jinkal, 6’5 Wing – St. Michaels: Skilled wing with nice perimeter shooting chops. Knows how to play, attacks closeouts when the ball is swung to him and just an overall steady player that plays to his strengths.

Dylan Jones, 6’6 Wing – Bartlett (TN): A sturdy built wing that shot the ball well off the bounce. Showed fine self creation skills and generated advantages in the half-court setting.

Bryson McManigell, 6’5 Wing – Rowlett: A versatile wing prospect that played in multiple spots for Rowlett. Can initiate offense from time to time, attack closeouts and finish to the rim or become a threat as a screener. He’s an intriguing prospect to keep tabs on.

Tank Francois, 6’4 SG – Texas Storm: High IQ guard that makes the right play. Jumper has seen a big improvement off the catch but he’s a high level connecting piece.

Vincient Green, 6’2 CG – Lancaster: A bucket getter that’s comfortable playing off the ball more than on, but is developing as a primary ball-handler. Can score in bunches quickly.

Levi Robinson, 6’0 PG – Burleson Centennial: Crafty pg that has a nice scoring package. Motor on the defensive end has improved since last year. Just a steady scoring option with solid play-making skill.

Nate Lyon, 6’3 SG – South Central Prep: Has an aptitude for shooting. Arguably the best shooter I saw at the event. Lyon’s shooting gravity allowed others to have open driving paths as well. Quick trigger and needs minimal space.

Josiah Jones, 6’1 PG – Faith Family: Crafty scoring guard that has an array of finishes on drives. Stays in attack mode.
