Malik Beasley, a 28-year-old guard for the Detroit Pistons, is being investigated by the U.S. District Attorney’s office as part of a serious gambling probe. Pending the federal investigation, Beasley is considered one of the NBA’s top free agents this off-season. Miami Heat’s Terry Rozier was cleared in a separate federal gambling probe.
Guard Malik Beasley is facing serious allegations of gambling related to NBA games and their prop bets as an active player. According to ESPN, the betting activity being investigated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York occurred during the 2023-24 season when the 28-year old, nine-year NBA veteran was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks.

According to CBS Sports, a prominent sports book detected unusual betting activity on Beasley props, beginning in early 2024. One betting prop of note that raised suspicions occurred on Jan. 31, 2024, when the odds on Beasley recording less than 2.5 rebounds moved significantly before the Bucks’ game with The Portland Trail Blazers, going from around +120 to -250 after the under received heavy betting.
Beasley recorded six rebounds on January 31, 2024 against the Portland Trail Blazers.
“An investigation is not a charge,” Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, told ESPN. “Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. Constitution. As of now he has not been charged with anything.”
As of now, the Pistons are deferring all questions about the federal probe to the NBA, which is cooperating with investigators, according to a league statement.
It should be noted in the last two years two other active NBA payers were under investigation for gambling on NBA prop bets. One was eventually banned for life from the league and the other has now been cleared by the NBA of any transgression that violates league policy.
In April of 2024, then Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter was banned by the NBA after a league investigation found he disclosed confidential information to sports bettors and wagered on games.

In January of 2025, Miami Heat forward Terry Rozier was investigated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York for gambling involving NBA prop bets on Rozier. The suspicious activity investigated occurring in March 2023, when Rozier was a member of the Charlotte Hornets.
On the Pat McAfee Show on June 30, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Rozier has now been cleared of any wrongdoing in that federal probe. No formal announcement regarding Rozier’s status has ever been made by the U.S. Attorney’s Office since the announcement of the probe itself.
For Beasley, the news comes as the Pistons were set to formally offer the shooting guard a new three-year, $42 million contract to lock up one of the more valued assets in NBA free agency, which begins July 1. The negotiations between his representation and the Pistons is now on pause.
Beasley is regarded as one of the league’s best outside scoring threats. He averaged 16.3 ppg for the Piston in 2024-25 while playing in all 82 games for the first time in his career. His 319 3-pointers were No. 2 league wide behind Anthony Edwards’ 320 and Beasley shot 42 percent from 3-point range. Beasley became just the third player in league history to make 300 3-pointers in a season while shooting at least 40 percent.
