Every time I see a 360 dunk by 2x Dunk Champion Jason Richardson, I get excited and then I get hit with this disappointment. I'm in no way disappointed with the dunk that I just saw but I'm disappointed in a dunk I didn't get to see.
I'll never forget picking up an issue of SLAM magazine and reading about a high school kid named Jason Richardson, who could do a 540! Yes, I've seen my friend and And1 legend Air Up There throw down a 720 in our hometown of Houston in the mid-2000s, but this article was from the late 90s. This was before we even saw Vince Carter's 360 windmill. I'm talking about a time when a normal 360 dunk was good enough to advance you to another round in the dying NBA dunk contest (the event was actually replaced in 1998 after Kobe's far from exciting win in 1997, and there wasn't one in 1999 because of the NBA lockout).
I don't want to sound too spoiled because complaining about J-Rich's dunks because I heard something was better is like complaining about living in mansion because it doesn't have an elevator (shout out to Jamal Crawford, who I once interviewed at his home while I had a sprained ankle. I told him about my ankle and he said, 'You can use the elevator.'). So, I'm going to stop complaining and show you a montage of J-Rich's best dunk against every team.
But first, here are a few special 360 dunks and moments.
He once did a 360 East Bay in China while having a dunk off against Nate Robinson.
He once threw one down on his way to scoring a career-high 44 points vs the Wade/Shaq Heat. J-Rich also knocked down 6 of 7 threes this night, and many people don't realize how deadly he was from three. He even led the league in made threes one season.
FU to LeBron for ruining this 360
And a special shout-out to the time he pulled a Bone Collector and threw the ball off Carlos Boozer's head during a 31-point performance in the 2003 Rising Stars game.
BEST DUNK AGAINST EVERY TEAM
ALL DUNKS FROM THE SLAM DUNK CONTESTS
I'm assuming you aren't falling out of your seat if this is your first time seeing highlights of Jason Richardson in the 02 & 03 NBA Dunk Contest. But seeing it live in 02/03 was as mind blowing as seeing THE MATRIX at a movie theater in 1999. pic.twitter.com/1A14EBlQIU
